Analysis of Milling Efficiency of the Vanadis® 8 Tool Steel with Additions of Vanadium and Molybdenum Carbides

The Vanadis® 8 is a tool steel used in the manufacture of dies, punches and tools. It has high carbon content combined with chromium, molybdenum vanadium, presents good performance its mechanical properties. Usually, chips obtained by machining are sold to companies that use remelting. However, this technique considered expensive harmful environment. Therefore, work aimed analyze efficiency addition vanadium carbide (VC) (Mo2C) energy ball milling steel. Microstructural analysis were performed pure 3% VC Mo2C additions. parameters were: speed 350 rpm, ball-to-powder weight ratio 15:1 times 4, 12 hours. results indicated milled presented best microstructural all conducted tests.
